Are you single and proud of it? Do you love your freedom? Do you fancy something out of the ordinary? Bicievento proposes a weekend FOR SINGLES ONLY, a plunge into the winter environment of the Tuscan coast, to experience in total freedom, far from the noise of the city and its restaurants packed with couples dining by candlelight.
Freedom is the keyword of this weekend. Orbetello is the place. Bicycle is the means.
FRIDAY EVENING 13th FEBRUARY: ARRIVAL IN ORBETELLO* with your own transport. Accommodation in a 3 stars hotel in the center of the village. Welcome dinner in a typical seafood restaurant. Meeting with the other participants and explanation of the activities of the following days.
SATURDAY 14th FEBRUARY: BETWEEN ARCHEOLOGY AND NATURE
Cyclist’s breakfast at the hotel. Meet at 10 am in Piazza del Duomo in Orbetello, choose your bicycle and off we go along the Laguna di Ponente. We will begin the uphill climb that leads us to the Ansedonia Promontory, a hill covered in Mediterranean vegetation. Here we will reach the ancient Roman settlement of Cosa. Descend to the beach of Capalbio to enjoy our packed lunch near the Spaccata Etrusca, an evocative artificial crack that represents a magnificent work of Roman hydraulic engineering. In the afternoon, after a pleasing ride on an even path, we will enter the Burano Oasis (first WWF oasis in Italy). We will cycle on roads with little traffic to reach Capalbio’s train station, and then we’re off to catch a train back to Orbetello with our bicycles. Dinner on your own and accomodation in the hotel.
SUNDAY 15th FEBRUARY: THE SPANISH FORTS AND THE PINEWOOD
Cyclist’s breakfast at the hotel. 10 am meet at Piazza del Duomo in Orbetello and depart. The tour unfolds around Orbetello Lagoon, moving to the town of Porto Ercole, a wonderful fisherman’s village; we will walk in the heart of the hamlet through alleys and squares that overlook the sea. The steep steps will lead us to the Rocca, a Spanish fortress built in the XVI century during the “Stato dei Presidi”. Following the Argentario’s Panoramic Road, we will enter the Feniglia pinewood and stop along the beach for a fish-based packed lunch. We will head back to Orbetello passing by the large and flat bike path that goes through the entire tombolo, a strip connecting the Argentario Promontory with the mainland in the early afternoon. If you still have a bit of energy you can join the parade of the “Carnevaletto da 3 soldi”, the legendary carnival of Orbetello!

What you have to know: Winter is the best season to observe the hidden life of nature. Vacationers are a distant memory and the animals show themselves in all their essence: hares can be spotted on Via di Cameretta; deer will be awaiting us on our way out of the Feniglia; flamingos will create pink designs while flying on the lagoon’s blue sky; herons and little egrets will take flight as we pass by. Observe lagoon-fishing techniques passed down through generations, and taste the bottarga and orata of Orbetello directly from the fishermen on the lagoon side.
